Application of Asymmetric Window Function in Stepped Frequency Continuous Wave Ground Penetrating Radar

Stepped Frequency Continuous Wave (SFCW) Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a frequency domain radar system based on a waveform consisting of a series of sinusoids of increasing frequency. In this paper, the effect of windows is investigated on detection and imaging. An asymmetric window technique is proposed, which amplifies high-frequency signals while suppressing unexpected components. The result shows the capability to provide high-resolution imaging and potentially solve the resolution/penetration trade-off inherent in pulse-based ground penetrating radar.
