A Novel Rapid Localization Method of Magnetic Anomaly Targets for Low-Altitude Detection

Low-altitude magnetic anomaly localization (LAMAL) technology is crucial for screening unexploded ordnances (UXOs) in postwar areas and exploring mineral resources. During field exploration, the extensive data collected from multiple routes and targets can result in slow speed and reduced accuracy in localizing magnetic targets. This study proposes a novel rapid localization method of magnetic anomaly targets for low-altitude detection. First, the stochastic resonance (SR) method detects the periods in which targets occur in different routes. The latitude, longitude, and magnetic anomaly data corresponding to the periods are extracted to generate contour color maps of the corresponding areas. The SR method reduces the redundant computation of nontarget area data and addresses the problem of low detection efficiency during field exploration. After that, a method combining Canny contour detection with image brightness detection is proposed to lock the anomaly centers, which are converted from the geometric coordinates of the anomaly centers to the actual latitude and longitude coordinates. As indicated by both synthetic data and field test results, the combination of SR with Canny edge detection and image brightness detection enables rapid localization. In addition, multiple targets’ latitude and longitude information can be automatically output, facilitating the rapid localization of magnetic anomaly targets in the field.
