BEL-PID controller for Vibration Mitigation

This paper aims to reduce the vibrations of the building during natural disasters to protect the building from structural damage and avoid loss of human lives by using closed loop Intelligent controller inspired by human brain. Brain emotional learning-based intelligent controller (BELBIC) functions like a closed loop system where system learns by using reward signal, which corrects error signals. In this work BEL controller is used in conjunction with the conventional PID controller. It tries to reduce the vibrations by commanding a magneto rheological damper (MRD) through an appropriate command signal based on structural response. The efficiency of BEL-PID controller is compared with the legacy PID controller. The results established that BEL-PID controller is better than the legacy PID controller.
