Joint Mirror Array and Receiver Orientation Design for Visible Light Communication

In this letter, a novel scheme that jointly optimizes the receiver orientation and the mirror array configuration has been proposed, which incorporates a blockage model that considers the moving non-user blockers in the line-of-sight link of an indoor visible light communication system. Specifically, the rotation angles of the receiver and the number and size of the mirrors are jointly optimized to maximize the achievable date rate, and the optimal solution is obtained by the enhanced grey wolf optimizer algorithm. To demonstrate the superiority of the proposed strategy, the scheme that only optimizes the rotation angles of the receiver or the number and size of the mirrors is also presented as a benchmark. The results show that the achievable data rate and bit error rate (BER) performances of the proposed scheme are both greatly improved in comparison with the scheme that only optimizes the receiver orientation or the mirror array configuration, respectively. Moreover, the effect of the dimension of the moving obstacles on the achievable data rate and BER performances is investigated.
