High Gain Arrow Shaped Log-Periodic Dipole Array Antenna for 5G Applications

In this paper, we present the novel arrow-shaped Log-periodic dipole array (LPDA) antenna suitable for 5G networks of operating frequencies at 3.3-3.8 GHz (n78 band) and 4.4-4.8 GHz (n77 band). This antenna is simulated on a cost-effective ArIon AD 450 substrate of 11.7×4.8×0.1524 cm³ size. The antenna's return loss, radiation pattern and surface current propagation are investigated. The performance of this antenna is discussed and compared to a basic reference LPDA antenna and previously reported antennas. The findings show that the proposed arrow-shaped LPDA antenna has an adequate gain of 4.377/5.031dBi at 3.6/4.5GHz with a radiation efficiency of 91.27/86.16%. The 2D polar pattern of both of these antennas shows a Dumbbell-shaped broader H-plane and a narrower E-plane, and as frequency increases, the radiation pattern becomes more compact, resulting in optimal gain and efficiency.
