Measurement and Mapping of Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Field (RF-EMF) Radiation Exposure in Malaysia's Environment

The advancement of the wireless communication technology has caused the radiofrequency electromagnetic Fields (RF - EMF) sources increased. This is due to proliferation of the radiocommunication infrastructure (RCI) for wireless mobile communications especially for 4G and 5G technology. The concerned on the continuous exposure to radiofrequency (RF-EMF) radiation exposure by the RCI has been raised and questioned by the public which living adjacent to the telecommunication structure. A profile study of RF-EMF radiation mapping exposure level was carried out in the environment of Malaysia at various morphology. The objectives of the study are to measure the RF EMF exposure in environment at the specified areas and to map the RF- EMF radiation exposure distribution in various cities in Malaysia. The measurement were conducted accordance to Technical Code by Malaysia Technical Standard Forum Berhad (MTFSB). The method of the study are using the on-site assessment by using on spot and drive test broadband measurement. Study were carried out in the far field (FF) region at the frequency range of 700 MHz - 3.5 GHz at 21 selected location around Malaysia. The electric field (E-field) data obtained were compared to the permissible exposure limit (PEL) to human as stated in the Mandatory Standard for Electromagnetic Field Emission from Radiocommunications Infrastructure, Determination No.5 of 2021 by Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). The results of RF-EMF exposure in the environment emits by telecommunication structure are comply to the permissible exposure limits(PEL) for public. The data obtained from the study were mapped using geographic information system (GIS) for current and future reference.
