An Analysis of the Decline in Face-to-Face Communication Due to Technology

Face-to-face communication is distinguished by the ability to observe the other person during a conversation, enhancing the effectiveness of information transmission through body language and facial expressions. This study examines the impact of technology on face-to-face communication by quantifying individuals' use of cell phones and other digital devices. The research employed field observations and a questionnaire survey to gather data. Findings indicate that while technology facilitates various forms of communication, it also contributes to a decline in face-to-face interactions. More than 63% of respondents prefer online communication over in-person conversations, highlighting a significant shift towards digital interaction. This paper discusses both the positive and negative effects of technology on communication, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach to maintain meaningful interpersonal connections.
