IEEE 2800-2022 Standard Compliance of Mixed-Model Energy Systems with full Integration of IBRs

This paper presents an investigation of the collective behavior of a diverse energy system including Type IV wind turbines, battery systems with synchronous condenser emulation, and a variety of inverter-based resources (IBRs). It investigates how these components respond to severe fault case scenario and ensure the system is compliant with the IEEE 2800-2022 standard. This study aims to fill the knowledge gap in previous studies by applying these standards to different IBR types, rather than focusing on generic/single IBR systems. The approach presented in this article provides insight to meet the current limitations of the IEEE 2800-2022 standard by injecting negative sequence reactive currents and prioritizing reactive currents. Results confirm that the peak phase current is maintained within the prescribed current limits during an unbalanced fault. Future studies will focus on the grid-forming converters with the same test system and possibilities of compliance with the mentioned standards.
