A Novel Optimal Configuration Method of Energy Storage System for Offshore Isolated Grid

The integration of a large amount of wind power poses a significant threat to the frequency stability of the offshore isolated power grid (OIPG). Configuration of energy storage system (ESS) is a key method to solve this problem. However, the uncertainty of wind power makes it more difficult to configure the ESS. In this paper, considering the frequency stability of OIPG and offshore wind power characteristics, a novel optimal configuration method of ESS is proposed. Firstly, a frequency response model of OIPG is established to determine the minimum PCS power of ESS. Secondly, offshore wind power characteristics are extracted by the Gaussian mixture model with K-means clustering method (GMM-Kmeans) to generate typical wind power scenarios and their corresponding probability. Moreover, a two-layer optimal configuration model is established to minimize the life cycle cost of ESS, the operating cost of generators, carbon emissions and abandoned wind. Finally, a real OIPG platform is used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
