Emergency Communication Architecture for Catastrophic Events: A Hybrid Approach

Natural disasters occur in many places on our planet each year, and the number of lives saved by effective rescue efforts directly relates to this. Disasters frequently cause wired or wireless communication systems to go offline. It makes it very difficult for victims and rescue teams to communicate. Regrettably, current solutions are insufficient to offer a communication system in the early stages of a disaster. The idea of a hybrid cellular-MANET architecture with a routing algorithm has been put forth in this paper. In this architecture, the suggested routing method effectively uses the energy and communication resources offered by the devices. The system’s Wi-Fi-enabled devices’ mobility is considered when designing the architecture. The proposed system supports MANET’s ability to self-organize. The proposed communication system can be set up in disaster affected areas very quickly. To simulate the suggested approach and routing algorithm, MATLAB is used as a simulation tool. While simulating the approach, various simulation conditions and parameters are considered. The effects of FAPR, access point density, and node speed are determined in various scenarios based on the reachability result. By contrasting the end-to-end delay and packet delivery ratio between traditional hop-count routing and the proposed routing algorithm, packet-level simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed routing algorithm.
