Investigation on SAR Imaging Characteristics of Submarine Mast and its Breaking Waves

This paper presents a method to study the SAR imaging characteristics of a mast and the induced breaking waves. Based on the large eddy simulation (LES) method, the three-dimensional breaking waves caused by a submarine mast are simulated. The scattered field of the composite scene is calculated by the geometrical optics and physical optics (GO-PO) algorithm. Combined with the matched filtering and backward projection (BP) algorithm, a focused SAR image is simulated. Numerical results show that the wake structure can be detected by a SAR detector, which is valuable for the detection and identification of underwater targets.
