Reducing Grating Lobes in Sparse Linear Arrays Using Variable Projection

Fixed-phase broadside arrays often have an inter-element spacing close to a wavelength in order to minimize the weight and cost. The performance of such arrays may be affected by the appearance of grating lobes. In this paper, we propose a simple exponential analysis and variable projection based solution to reduce these grating lobes.
