System-by-Design for Inverse Problems: Recent Advances and Future Trends

The computationally-efficient solution of non-linear and ill-posed electromagnetic inverse scattering problems (EM-ISPs) arising in several microwave imaging (MI) contexts is addressed by means of the System-by-Design (SbD) paradigm. The main concepts and guidelines of the SbD as applied to EM-ISPs are summarized, together with an example of a recent SbD implementation jointly exploiting time and space priors for yielding an accurate and robust quantitative imaging and follow-up of brain strokes.
