Wideband RCS Reduction of Vivaldi Antenna Utilizing Polarization Conversion Metasurface

A low radar cross section (RCS) Vivaldi antenna based on the polarization conversion metasurface (PCM) is presented in this paper. The PCM unit consists of two pairs of L-shape metal strips and an air chamber is applied to increasing the bandwidth of polarization conversion. The wideband RCS reduction can be realized by periodically arranging the PCM units around the antipodal Vivaldi antenna. The antipodal Vivaldi antenna is operating in 9.2-20 GHz and a 10 dB average RCS reduction is realized in 11–35 GHz (104%).
