Wideband Design of a Compact Square Dielectric Resonator Antenna for Improved Radiation Features

This paper proposes a compact and wideband antenna design using metallic perturbation and features cross-polar reduction. As a result of metallic perturbation and insertion of an RT-Duroid substrate, the design has a low Q-factor, which enhances bandwidth significantly. By using symmetrical slots as the defected ground structure, cross-polarized (XP) radiation is significantly reduced. The impedance bandwidth (2.7-5.3 GHz) is approximately 64% when the XP level is kept below -18 dB.
