A Fist Shape CSRR Loaded Patch Antenna at K and Ka Band for Satellite Applications

In this work, a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) loaded fist shape patch antenna is proposed to work in K and Ka band for satellite applications. The proposed antenna shows a total volume of $20 \times 25\times 1.6\ \text{mm}^{3}$. By using CSRR loading, miniaturization and gain enhancement are achieved. The designed antenna shows a percentage bandwidth of 22.75% (17.25 - 22 GHz) at the lower resonance frequency of 20.87 GHz and 68.54% (23.12 -40 GHz) at the upper resonance frequency of 24.62 GHz, respectively. The obtained radiation efficiency is more than 60% and observed peak gains are 1.67 and 6.29 dBi at the resonance frequency of 20.87 and 24.62 GHz, respectively. The designed antenna is experimentally validated in this work and results are found to be satisfactory towards it used for satellite applications.
