A Wideband Co-Linearly Polarized Sub-Grid Array Antenna-on-Display (AoD) Concept for Integration of Sensing and Communication Systems

This paper presents an unprecedented grid array antenna-on-display (AoD) topology featuring wideband and multifunctional properties for the first time in literature. The design features a folded open comb line structure for the traveling wave technique. The proposed AoD is devised, and both passive and active types of feeding networks are devised to validate wideband characteristics. An eight-sub grid array AoD is exemplified and integrated with a real-life OLED display panel. Experimental results confirm that the newly proposed AoD topology achieves a wide scanning angle of $\pm 45^{\circ}$ across the radar and communication spectrum in the 24 to 40 GHz range. This ascertains that the proposed grid array AoD topology is fully compatible with the display panel for high scanning-rate radar sensing and communication applications.
