A Pin Diode-Enabled PDMS Antenna for Transition Between UWB and Filtered Narrowband Modes

In this work, an ultrawide band printed antenna capable of switching frequency mode is proposed for smart flexible devices. The antenna is developed using Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate owing to the advantage of transparency and flexibility with an overall size of 40 mm $\times 38$ mm $\times 1$ mm. The antenna radiating structure is composed of an elliptical shape radiator along with a filter, designed to pass lower band while filtering out the UWB spectrum. To achieve mode reconfigurability two pion diodes are inserted between the ports of antenna and radiating structure. Various antenna characteristics are discussed to provide the working mechanism of the antenna. Moreover, a brief comparison with state-of-the-art is performed to show the potential of methodology adopted to design proposed antenna.
