Decoupling Method of Millimeter Wave Antenna Array Based on Partial Reflection Decoupling Surface

This paper presents the design and application of a partial reflection decoupling surface (PRDS) to reduce the mutual coupling in a millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) antenna array. The PRDS utilizes the reflected electromagnetic wave from an isomorphic metal patch structure positioned above the patch antenna array for decoupling purpose. Remarkably, these improvements are achieved without modifying the original antenna array design. The PRDS enhances the isolation of the antenna array elements by up to 15.5 dB. It also improves the gain by 1.2 dB. Moreover, it broadens the operating bandwidth by 17%. Consequently, the proposed high-isolation antenna array holds great promise for mm-Wave wireless applications.
