Design of Vertical SRR Based Absorber for RCS Reduction of Aircraft Equipped with Lightening Strike Protection

In this paper, a vertical split ring resonator (SRR) based absorber has been designed along with copper mesh for lightening strike protection. The magnetic resonance due to copper mesh has been utilized to design Vertical SRR based absorber. The absorption of more than 90 % is achieved at the resonant frequency of 9.2 GHz and 12.7 GHz. The structure is stable for oblique incidence upto 45 degree and as the structure is non symmetric it give polarization sensitive behaviour. The proposed structure is light weight and ultra thin vertical SRR based absorber with the thickness of 2.5 mm. It can be used with commercially available copper mesh of standard dimensions used in aviation industry.
