Point-Dense Measurement of 802.11g Radio Intensity Using Commercial Off-the-Shelf Hardware and Software-Defined Radio with Optical Marker-Based Positioning

This paper presents an evaluation of the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) of 802.11g, measured using a Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) WLAN adapter, and the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), measured using Software-Defined Radio (SDR) from an Access Point (AP) at 200 points in a given indoor environment. The study uses a custom Raspberry Pi 4-based system with ArUco markers for positioning, designed for embedding on mobile platforms like drones or robots to optimize the measurement process. The result is a point-dense radio signal strength heat map that may be used in communications infrastructure planning.
