Digital Teaching Platform for Middle School Physical Education: Case Study on Tennis Lesson

In the context of intelligent education, this paper explores the application of digital physical education (PE) in middle schools through the example of a digital tennis teaching platform. Firstly, the overall framework of digital tennis teaching is established, and the digital teaching scheme is designed based on the two key parts from the guidelines of United States Professional Tennis Association, which focus directly on tennis skills. Secondly, wearable motion capture devices are developed to capture and display the character animation of students and coaches in real time, while a stroke simulator provides feedback. Subsequently, the detailed analysis methods of tennis strokes including the tennis racket angle, kinetic chain diagram, contribution velocity and time coordination are proposed and visualized on the software interface to teach and guide tennis stroke motion. Finally, a tower defense game to be both educational and entertaining is designed, aimed at enhancing students’ tennis control ability. The teaching method proposed in this paper offers a novel PE mode for middle school students by integrating artificial intelligence into traditional PE, which is able to gather extensive data on students’ physical health, paving the way for future personalized teaching strategies.
