Using Museum to Promote Learning for K-12 Students: a Systematic Literature Review from 2003 to 2023

This study presents a systematic review of 20 years of articles on the usage of museum learning in K-12 education. The study used Scopus as a database source and selected 57 highly relevant articles for detailed coding analysis. The research results indicate that current studies on informal learning outcomes of K-12 children primarily focus on scientific knowledge and emotional attitudes, and most of them carry out empirical studies based on the integration of information technology, such as the combination of AR and educational games, and the combination of AR and mobile devices. In addition, the main research sites are science museums, and the learning content mainly focuses on the fields of physics and biology. This paper also proposes teaching intervention strategies and suggestions to enhance the learning outcomes of K-12 students.
