The Relationship Between ICT Utilization and Digital Literacy: The Moderating Role of Parental Educational Level

This study explored the relationship between information and communications technology (ICT) utilization, parental educational level and digital literacy. The survey results from a total of $\mathbf{8, 8 8 4}$ primary school students from four provinces in southern China showed that ICT utilization was significantly and positively correlated with digital literacy, and that parental educational level was significantly and positively correlated with digital literacy. The results of the moderating effect showed that mothers’ educational level played a significant positive moderating role between ICT utilization and digital literacy, and ICT utilization positively predicted digital literacy more for students with high level of mothers’ education; however, father’s educational level did not play a moderating role between ICT utilization and digital literacy. Finally, this study put forward some recommendations for promoting students’ digital literacy according to the results and provided directions for future research.
