Plasmonic nanoantennas for biosensing and monitoring of cell activity

In this work, we propose a novel device that utilizes plasmonic nanoantennas, which has promising capabilities in biomolecular sensing and monitoring of electrophysiological activity in living systems. The biosensing capability was validated with sucrose solutions, achieving a sensitivity of 469 nm/RIU (refractive index units). Additionally, electrical monitoring was demonstrated employing a spectroelectrochemical technique in which 40 ms pulses were detected. Our results indicate the potential of this device to advance the study of cell activity and complex organ systems.
