Comprehensive Performance Analysis of High-Speed PM Motors With Layered Rotor Structures

This article aims to thoroughly examine the impact of the layered rotor structures on electromagnetic performance, temperature, rotor stress, and rotor dynamics for high-speed permanent magnet motors (HSPMMs). Initially, the multiphysics analysis is conducted on the conventional and layered rotors utilizing different permanent magnets (PMs), including the sintered PMs, bonded PMs, and composite magnetic fibers (CMFs). Subsequently, this article presents an exhaustive analysis of the multiphysics performance of the layered rotor that incorporates a mixture of sintered PM and CMF. The influence of the CMF-to-PM ratio on motor performance is scrutinized to ascertain the optimal design range for the ratio. A comprehensive comparative assessment of five types of motors is then provided. To corroborate the theoretical findings, two prototypes are subjected to experimental verification.
