Parameter-Independent Automatic Loss Minimization Control for IPMSM Drives by Using Dual-Interlaced Current Impulse Injection

Loss minimization control (LMC) is becoming a kind of competitive efficiency optimization control strategy for interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM) drives. However, the minimal loss operating points are difficult to obtain due to machine parameter variations. To solve this issue, the online searching algorithms or parametric lookup tables are commonly used, but they face the problems of memory resources consumption, poor versatility, and poor dynamic performance. Hence, to deal with these problems, this article originally proposes a parameter-independent automatic LMC method based on dual-interlaced current impulse injection. First, by analyzing the loss generation mechanism, a general LMC indicator Γ is constructed to detect the minimal loss operating points. Then, by injecting the interlaced impulse excitation into the dq-axis currents, respectively, the Γ can be extracted from the impulse response of the torque and the total power loss. Consequently, the optimal current references can be automatically distributed via the Γ control loop, and the automatic LMC of IPMSM is achieved. Both the simulation and the experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve efficiency improvement with satisfactory dynamic performance.
