The potential of augmented reality in Indian rural primary education [STEM Education]

Technology-enhanced learning has the potential to increase educational quality. In this study, we examine the integration of augmented reality (AR) technology in rural primary schools in India. We listed articles associated with AR-based applications for Indian preschool and primary education from 2018 to 2023, and we observed that they are only 10% of contemporary AR-based education applications. To explore the potentiality of AR, there is often a need for mobile devices. We surveyed 60 preschool and primary students. It was observed that rural students’ mobile usage was statistically less than that of urban students. A pilot study was also conducted on 20 rural primary school to investigate their opinions toward using AR applications. The findings indicate that the rural students enjoyed the AR application as an aid and also had a positive attitude toward the AR application.
