Design and Optimization of Wing Shape for Underwater Glider Based on CFD

The wings of the underwater gliders (UGs) are the main physical feature that distinguishes them from other underwater robots. Optimization of wing parameters based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is one of the important ways to improve its gliding performance. This paper proposed an optimization method of wing based on the orthogonal method and the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm by considering the drag coefficient, lift-to-drag ratio, and moment coefficient (${{\bm{l}}_{\bm{\alpha }}}$) as optimize objectives, which are closely related to the range of UGs. After the optimization of the wing parameters, the drag coefficient was reduced by 47.30 %, the lift-to-drag ratio was augmented by 36.71 %, and the la was diminished by 79.32 % at an angle of attack of 6 ° and a flow velocity of 0.5 m/s. The above cases prove the effectiveness of the optimization method proposed in this paper, which can find the best solution among a large number of wing parameters and reduce the need for large data samples and high computing power in CFD simulation.
