Abstract:

Recently, sustainability became mainstream in business, academia, governments and individual levels. Speaking of sustainability, cybersecurity is not the first thing which stands out immediately and clearly. But a single cyberattack on critical infrastructure can have an environmental impact equivalent to a major oil spill. Cybersecurity is not merely an add-on to sustainability; it is a fundamental component; it is a backbone. Just as physical resilience is essential for withstanding natural disasters, cyber resilience is crucial for safeguarding sustainable systems from digital disruptions. Protecting sensitive environmental data is paramount for informed decision-making and accountability, making data protection an indispensable aspect of sustainability. This article delves into new ways cybersecurity acts as a silent guardian, paving the way for a more sustainable future. It also provides insights on sustainable IT followed by cybersecurity emissions. Last, but not least, the author offers a new model for ecosystem's sustainability through the lens of cybersecurity.
