Research and Implementation on Sea-Based Wireless Laser Communication PAT System

Wireless laser communication is a technology that utilizes laser as the information carrier for point-to-point communication in free space. It has high strategic demand and application value in both military and civilian sectors, meeting the requirements for high bandwidth, high data rates, and high reliability communication technology in future communication between land, sea, air, and space. As a result, it is widely researched and applied. The technologies of space-based wireless laser communication and land-based wireless laser communication have reached a high level of maturity. However, sea-based wireless laser communication faces significant challenges. Communication terminals in this context are typically subjected to disturbances from waves, turbulence, and wind, leading to substantial attitude disturbances and difficulties in maintaining a stable trajectory. Therefore, maritime laser communication always focuses on PAT (Pointing, Acquisition, and Tracking) technology. In this paper, we will present and analyze the research results of our study on the sea-based wireless laser communication PAT system. Additionally, we will also demonstrate the implementation process of the PAT system, providing a reliable PAT system solution for sea-based wireless laser communication. Through experimental validation, our designed PAT system exhibits excellent performance. In the presence of external disturbances, the compensated pointing error ranges from 2 to 4 milliradian. The coarse-fine composite tracking accuracy achieves a range of 9 to 15 microradian. Furthermore, the communication rate can reach 10 Gbps.
