AQI Hotspot Effects on Residential Neighborhoods - A Hybrid Model for Smart Urban Planning

Several cities in India have seen rapid urbanization, resulting in the development of new residential communities in close proximity to existing urban transport hubs and industries that pollute the environment. These communities experience higher pollution levels, contributed majorly by air pollution. In our research, we have carried out extensive air pollution sensing activities that establish this grim reality. Based on these results, we were motivated to propose and develop a model for locating or developing new age urban communities as a function of the distance from air pollution hotspots. We believe this model can be of significant help in urban planning for new age communities. In this work, we propose a hybrid model [EXP-LR] Exponential with Linear Regression, which accurately predicts how the Air Quality Index (AQI) varies with distance, moving away from the hotspot. The performance of the proposed model was evaluated and analyzed using various performance metrics.
