Fluid-Structure Interaction Analysis of High Aspect Ratio Composite Wing Structures

This study conducts a comprehensive examination of the fluid-structure interaction behavior of high aspect ratio wings made from Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP). The research initiates with modal analysis in MSC Nastran to identify natural frequencies, followed by a progression to aeroelastic analysis to investigate the aeroelastic response. Complementing these computational methods, experimental modal analysis and wind tunnel testing are performed to validate the numerical models and explore the dynamic behavior of the wings under aerodynamic loads. Image processing techniques are employed to measure tip displacements, thereby enhancing the study’s analytical capabilities. This integration of computational and experimental methods provides novel insights into the fluid-structure interaction characteristics of GFRP, highlighting the material’s potential for optimizing aircraft performance through improved design and material selection.
