Nanomaterials and Graphene Advances in Point of Care (PoC) Chemiluminescence Devices for Remarkable Applications

Chemiluminescence (CL), a highly advantageous optical phenomena seeing increasing demand, is being extended from its benchtop laboratory setup to point-of-care (PoC) devices. Furthermore, graphene and other nanomaterials have been identified as viable alternatives for further augmenting the capabilities of PoC CL systems by enhancing the sensitivities of detection. This work delves upon elucidating the distinctive contributions of three primary categories of materials in enhancing CL signals: inorganic metal nanoparticles, inorganic semiconductor nanoparticles, and carbon nanomaterials. Such remarkable CL signal augmentations were demonstrated by their direct and indirect effects, which have the potential to revolutionize the development of PoC CL devices in the future. Moreover, recent advancements in two significant areas, specifically CL PoC biomarker and reactive oxidative stress (ROS) marker detections, underscore the potential of PoC devices in upcoming markets.
