Comparison of Dielectric Properties of Pure and Modified PET-G Materials for 3D Prototyping

The increased popularity of 3D printing technologies has revolutionized development of new dielectric materials. One of the promising materials for dielectric applications is Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PET-G), a thermoplastic polyester, which inherent dielectric properties and ease of 3D printing make it an ideal candidate for various industries. However, the integration of additives may affect the material’s electrical performance, particularly in direct current (DC) applications due to space charge accumulation. This research investigates the impact of flame retardant additives on the dielectric properties of PET-G, considering DC conductivity, electrical breakdown strength, and the loss factor dependency on temperature. Additionally, the study explores the influence of different printing patterns, specifically concentric versus rectilinear structures, on inner structure vacancies and subsequent space charge accumulation. The Pulse Electro-Acoustic (PEA) method is employed to observe space charge accumulation over time under high voltage DC electric fields, providing crucial insights into the dielectric properties of PET-G and its suitability for DC applications.
