Exploratory practice in digital theatre: definitions, classifications, production logic, and challenges

The multiple and mixed concepts, the lack of classification standards, and the ambiguity of the production logic of digital theatre (DT) make the research confined to the surface. To clarify the definition and classification of DT and construct its production system in depth, this study defines the concept and condenses the four characteristics of DT. Secondly, from the perspective of “art innovation-technology application,” the paper discusses the double helix analysis framework of DT works classification. Then, the DT production logic is constructed from the DT works planning, creation, production, and performance communication processes, and the actual case is verified. Finally, combined with the development trend of DT, the challenges it faces in technical cost, content innovation, audience acceptance, copyright protection, and professional training are put forward.
