Study on Public Participation in Urban Water Environment Treatment Service System Design

To guide public participation in urban water ecological environment governance and to activate the water ecological environment system along with surrounding public activities through widespread public engagement, this paper proposes a new bottom-up governance model based on the concept of participatory design. Utilizing the fundamental methods of service system design, the paper conducts a multidimensional analysis of the interactions between the public and the water environment, and summarizes four design strategies for public participation in urban water environment governance: (1) integrating water purification functions into hydrophilic activities, (2) creating home-integrated water environment derivative products, (3) organizing educational and entertaining public water purification activities, and (4) promoting social interactive multimedia communication platforms. The proposed design strategies leverage the advantages of public engagement, allowing the public to experience and participate in the entire chain of urban water ecological environment governance, thereby fostering a green and harmonious coexistence between urban residents and the water ecological environment.
