An Improvement to the Existing Cloud-Enabled Medication Reminder Device

Medication adherence remains a global challenge, negatively impacting health and increasing healthcare costs. A cloud-enabled medication reminder device presented in this research study addresses this issue. The proposed device includes motion sensors to detect missed doses, triggers multi-modal alerts (email, text, phone, LED, and Buzzer) for sending timely reminders and automatic refill requests to pharmacies. The presented results show the working and functionalities of the device. A study spanning over a month involving 30 human subjects assesses the effectiveness of the proposed system. The feedback received confirms the usefulness of the device. It shows a willingness among the participants to use the device and a likelihood to recommend it. The participants also highly rate the device in terms of helpfulness, reliability, management, and improvement in medication adherence.
