Evaluation of handover schemes and switching between different communication systems by drone radio stations

This study proposes the method of expanding the communication area by using the flying drones as mobile wireless station and establish the relay networks with ground stations. The drones seamlessly performed handover with the ground station in flight, thereby creating a new network in the sky. However, multipath interference occurs when there are structures or obstacles in the flight path, and the propagation environment fluctuates significantly depending on the flight. In this paper, we propose the optimal handover method under variable propagation environment conditions, and also investigate handover methods with multiple different wireless media (Wi-Fi and 5G).
