A Novel Electronic Lighting Driver for a UV-C LED Disinfection and Sterilization Lamp Applied to a DC Input Voltage Source

UV-C LEDs, which replace conventional UV mercury lamps and have short wavelength characteristics, are a new source of illumination for the space decontamination and surface disinfection markets. This paper describes and implements a novel electronic lighting driver for UV-C LED disinfection and sterilization lamps with a DC input voltage source. The main circuit of this electronic lighting driver merges a modified buck converter and a flyback converter into a novel single-stage, single-switch DC-DC power converter. Besides, the energy stored in the transformer leakage inductor can be recovered and utilized by the proposed electronic lighting driver, thereby improving circuit efficiency.A prototype driver with a power rating of 3.3W (10V/330mA) for UV-C LED disinfection and sterilization lamps has been established. Experimental results obtained with the prototype circuit at an input DC voltage of 18V validate the functionality of the presented electronic lighting driver for UV-C LED disinfection and sterilization lamps. Moreover, the measured circuit efficiency is greater than 91%.
