Interactive Design of Preschool Children’s Picture Book Based on Embodied Cognition

Interactive picture books represent a novel form of reading that offer children a richer reading experience. However, current interactive picture books often prioritize entertainment over educational value, disrupting narrative coherence. In contrast, research suggests that interactive features relevant to the story can enhance story recall among preschool children. Preschoolers primarily explore their surroundings through sensory perception, emphasizing the importance of integrating embodied cognition theory into interactive picture book design to promote children's reading development. This paper aims to design an interactive picture book aligned with embodied cognition theory to enhance children's reading experience. Through the integration of familiar items and experiences from children’s everyday lives, the ‘Cloud Thief’ interactive picture book aims to activate children's existing cognitive schemas, engaging them effectively participate in the story.
