A Compact Conformal Antenna for Capsule Endoscopy

To adapt to the applications of wireless capsule endoscope (WCE) systems, this study discusses the design, manufacturing, packaging, and performance assessment of a conformal microstrip patch antenna operating in the 2.45GHz Industrial, Scientific, and Medical band. The suggested capsule device is intended for deep-tissue implantation and has a dimensions of 5.5 x 5.5 mm

. Simulation and experimental findings reveal that the suggested antenna performs well in terms of return loss and bandwidth operating from 2.44 GHz to 2.48 GHz. This antenna has a maximum realized gain of -32.4 dBi at 2.45 GHz. The maximum input power during simulation is limited to 3.3mW in order to satisfy the SAR regulations of 1.6W/Kg for 1gm of tissue as per the FCC standard. The tolerance of the antenna due to bendability and varying WCE shell thicknesses is examined. These results suggest that the suggested antenna is a viable candidate for WCE.
