HRES based Battery System with Optimal ANFIS-MPPT for Microgrid Applications

Microgrid represents a transformative localized energy management system that combines multiple Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) to provide a sustainable and reliable energy distribution. The proposed work focuses on an innovative microgrid architecture that incorporates Hybrid RES system such as Photovoltaic (PV), Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) and Fuel Cell (FC) as primary energy sources, while Battery serves as secondary sources, respectively. With the integration of Battery, the intermittency of power supply induced by the primary sources is subdued and stable power supply is ensured. Additionally, by avoiding the use of PV converter, the proposed work also aims to provide a cost effective solution for the integration of PV to microgrid. Moreover, with the application of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) based Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) for extracting optimal power from the PV system. The fuel cell is interfaced to the DC link via a Boot converter, whereas, battery is interfaced to the DC link via a Bidirectional Converter (BDC). Additionally, Proportional Integral (PI) based droop control approach is employed for the control of BDC. The proposed microgrid also features Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) controller to facilitate effective grid integration. To analyze the efficacy of the proposed microgrid architecture and its control methodology, MATLAB simulation is employed.
