Optimizing and Improving Unified Power Quality (UPQC) for Mitigation of Voltage Drop

Now-a-days, Power system is progressively improving addicted to a power electronic based power system and survive various power quality issues, which encourages the expansion of active power filter (APF). APF has improved into a Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC). Voltage drops and swells are universal power quality issues in 3-phase electrical distribution systems, causing equipment malfunction and process disruption. This paper proposes a UPQC to compensate power quality issues in a 3ph3w distribution system. The UPQC integrates a shunt and series active power filter (APF), linked nonstop via a DC-link capacitor. The series filter of the UPQC adds a proper voltage component to retain a constant sinusoidal voltage at the load terminal, whereas shunt filter handles fluctuations in power demand. The capability of the proposed method is evaluated through comprehensive simulation studies in MATLAB/Simulink and enhancing power quality and protecting sensitive loads. The implementation process of various considerations, including topology selection and control algorithm design; crucial for optimizing UPQC performance. Successful voltage regulation is achieved during specified voltage drop and swell.
