Multiple-Sensors Enhanced Electromagnetic Time Reversal Algorithm for Partial Discharge Localization of Gas Insulated Switchgear

Gas insulated switchgear (GIS) is widely used in power grids, and the electromagnetic time reversal (EMTR) method is a new method for partial discharge (PD) localization in GIS, which has good performance in uneven media and vision obstructed conditions. However, the EMTR method using external UHF sensors for PD localization in GIS has not been fully studied. This article verifies through simulation that when using the EMTR method with external UHF sensors to locate PD in GIS, using the maximum electric field strength criterion for localization may determine the incorrect focus. In this regard, this article proposes and validates a method based on the superimposition of 3D electric field strength in the backward process of multiple sensors, which solves the focus deviation issue in this situation and successfully achieves the localization of PD in GIS with centimeter level accuracy.
