V2G-Enabled Electric School Buses for Grid Support and Peak Load Management

This study explores the possibility of replacing Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) enabled Electric school buses to reduce the diesel bus associated pollution without incurring additional costs. This analysis looks at how adding V2G technology to school bus fleets could benefit the environment by supporting grid during peak hours thus reducing the overall grid power consumption. The work also evaluates the proposed idea’s economic feasibility and considers potential grid service income streams to ascertain the viability of V2G-enabled Electric buses. A schedule with 3 modes of operation namely ) PV to EV ii) EV to grid ii) grid to EV is proposed and the mode switching is done using a State flow-based technique. A 24-hour simulation for incorporating the 3 modes of operation is also simulated. By examining both the environmental and economic aspects, this study provides light on the feasibility and effectiveness of using V2G-enabled Electric school buses as a sustainable transportation choice.
