Wideband and High Gain Spherical Fabry-Perot Resonator Cavity Antenna Using Dielectric Phase Correcting Structure

A wideband and high gain Fabry-Perot resonator cavity antenna is proposed in this paper. On the basis of the open resonator cavity antenna (ORCA) with a spherically modified ground, a phase correcting structure is adopted to further enhance its performance. By adjusting the radiation phase on the aperture of the ORCA, a significant improvement in gain bandwidth and aperture efficiency is obtained. The simulated results show that the proposed antenna achieves a gain bandwidth of 50% and a peak gain of 20 dBi, whose performance is about two times of that of a standard ORCA. This approach effectively expands the bandwidth of ORCA, all the while preserving the advantages of low complexity and low cost of the design.
