Teaching Software Architecture Design – Building Intuition

Design is a fundamental activity in the creation of software systems. It can be a daunting task since design decisions have long term implications to the system being built. These decisions are especially daunting for students who have limited experience and knowledge in building software systems. In this paper, we propose a new design method and course structure that aims to demystify the process of software design and helps students learn to think analytically while building intuition about the trade-offs being made during the design phase.CCS CONCEPTS • Software and its engineering → Software design engineering; • Social and professional topics → Adult education; Software engineering education.
