Mutual Inductance and Magnetic Flux in Dynamic Wireless Charging for EVs with Circular and Rectangular Coils

Dynamic Wireless Charging (DWC) is an innovative and trending technology poised to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) industry. By enabling EV batteries to charge automatically while the vehicles are in motion, DWC addresses one of the major hurdles in EV adoption: range anxiety. Traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, which have dominated the transportation sector for over a century, significantly contribute to environmental pollution through the emission of greenhouse gases and other harmful pollutants, leading to increased air pollution, global warming, and adverse health effects. In contrast, EVs, especially those utilizing DWC, offer a cleaner and more sustainable alternative, promoting the transition away from fossil fuels and supporting the broader goals of reducing carbon footprints and mitigating climate change. This paper focuses on the design of the transmitter and receiver coils used in DWC systems, specifically examining circular and rectangular coil geometries. It discusses how the mutual inductance and magnetic flux between these coils affect the efficiency and effectiveness of power transfer. By optimizing coil design and understanding the impact of mutual inductance and magnetic flux, this research aims to improve the performance of DWC technology, enhancing its convenience, appeal, and adoption, thereby contributing to a cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally friendly transportation future.
