Various Shaped Phosphors-in-Glass Lenses by Isobam-APS gel Casting for white Light Emitting Diodes

Blue chips with a color converter make up the majority of white light diodes (WLEDs). In lighting fields, WLEDs often need lens to control divergence angle of light, at the same time, the reliability of WLEDs also needs to be improved. In this paper, Isobam-APS gel casting was used to create Phosphors-in-Glass (PIG) in a variety of shapes. The PIG was obtained by sintering amorphous silica nanoparticles and commercial YAG:Ce
³⁺
phosphors. The PIG was a color converter, also as a lens. The samples' surface morphology and phase were examined using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicated that the phosphors were not eliminated in the course of preparation. The emission and excitation spectra of the PIG were determined by fluorescence spectrophotometer at temperatures from 25°C to 250°C. When the temperature was 150°C, the excitation and emission intensity of the PIG retained 85% of intensity at 25°C. The PIG emitted yellow light with quantum efficiency high as 96.39%. The PIG was combined with blue chip to obtain WLED. Under 3V, 100mA test, the luminous efficiency of the WLED was 94.08 lm/W. has the advantage of superior efficiency, heat conductivity and quantum efficiency for its inorganic material. Various shaped Phosphors-in-Glass lenses can be prepared by this method, high performance WLEDs made of a blue chip and PIG lens are more competitive in various lighting fields.
